1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible Model Year History Overview: Despite a rough year for the U.S. economy in ’58 Chevy managed to build over 1.1 million cars: 60,000 were Impalas. This was a decent showing for a new series consisting of only a hardtop and convertible. Chevrolet deserves credit for bucking the tailfin trend in 1958, but the stylists made up for it the following year with an over decorated bat-wing tail. After the Automobile Manufactures Association recommended the industry withdraw from organized racing in 1957 the effects of the racing band didn’t take long. In 1958 Chevy back-pedaled on performance with a line of softer, more luxurious cars. People who bought Impalas didn’t care about performance or handling. They wanted size and comfort and the Impala delivered. Stock Number: C 47
