1969 CHEVROLET CAMARO CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE

"The Crate Camaro" aka "Hot Rod 1" was built by Hot Rod Magazine to showcase the new Dynacorn all-steel bodies. This masterpiece has the best of everything. It is powered by a GM Performance Parts all aluminum Ram Jet ZL-1 big block with EFI, only 200 were made. This engine is the only one of three prototype validation/reliability test engines remaining. The other two were used in a process known as "test to fail." GMPP completely refreshed and dyno tested. 528 peak horsepower. Second body of the first 3 prototypes and first body turned into a complete car. Features prototype Budnik wheels, prototype Keisler clutch housing, prototype SSBC brakes, one-off custom hood, custom front and rear spoilers, functional side brake cooling ducts, C5 Corvette side marker lights, 1957 "Black Widow" seat inserts known as cobblestone, Wizard billet radiator with 4 cooling fans, stainless steel 13" disc brakes, custom stereo system, one-off driving lights and special paint scheme. This project did more for aftermarket reproduction parts than any other car in history. It was a catalyst for licensing of complete bodies as well as many small parts. Appeared in Hot Rod magazine 4 times, the December 2005 issue had a 36 page article on the cars construction, television appearances, twice drove the Hot Rod Power Tour. Documented in the Hot Rod magazine series History of Camaros. From the Jimmy Richardson Collection.
