1969 Shelby GT-500
Convertible

History Overview:

“THE END OF A LEGEND”
The first Shelby Mustangs built by Carroll Shelby came in 1965. The 1965 GT-350 was aimed primarily at the B-Production racing class of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). It was the B-Production champion in 1965-67.  The 1969 Shelby GT-350 and GT500 were more closely related to the production Mustangs than their predecessors had been (the Mustang was all-new in 1969).  There were now air scoops in the fiberglass front fenders, and side stripes were relocated midway up the body side. Although a few 1969’s were re-serialed for 1970, Shelby production effectively ended in ’69.  A combination of government regulations at that time and spiraling insurance rates prompted cancellation of the Shelby program. Top speed was 115 mph, 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds, and the ¼ mile in 14 seconds @ 102 mph.
