1958 Edsel Citation History Overview: Ford Motor Company’s 1958 Edsel debuted on September 4, 1957. Awkward styling, gimmicky “advancements,” and changing buyer tastes help make it one of biggest marketing flops in automotive history. The inaugural Edsel line featured Ranger and Pacer models on a 116 or 118-inch wheelbase shared with the 1958 Ford. Top of the line models, Corsair and Citation rode on Mercury’s 124-inch wheelbase. Body shells were similarly shared and Edsel offered a wide choice of body styles. Prices were about $500 lower than comparable Mercury’s. The “Teletouch” automatic transmission was controlled by pushbuttons recessed in the steering wheel hub; the speedometer was a “Cyclops-eye” rotating drum; and almost everything else except the rearview mirror could be power-assisted. The 410 cid engine with 345 hp made the Edsel Citation quite rapid. This engine cranked out 475 lb-ft of torque, hence its E-475 moniker on the valve covers. Model year 1960 which ended in November 1959 was the third and last year for Edsel with just 2,846 units produced. This car underwent a professional restoration in 1985. All numbers match and the body was completely stripped and refinished. This car is factory correct. MSRP: $3,801.00 Stock Number C 187 |
