1962 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible

Model Year History Overview:
During the 1960s the top-line Chevrolet Impala had rapidly become the most popular single model in the United States.  One Impala worthy of note is the performance-bred Super Sport of 1962-67.  The concept was simple: take the big 119-inch standard-wheelbase chassis, add sporty styling touches, and offer options designed to enhance performance and handling.  The exterior featured special SS emblems and deleted the regular rocker panel bright work.  Vinyl bucket seats and a central gearshift console were standard.  Tachometer and sport steering wheel were optional.  Big displacement V-8s were offered, like the 409 CID that later developed 425 hp.  Equipped with exciting handling options like stiffer springs and shocks, sintered metallic brake linings, four-speed gearbox, and ultra-quick power steering, the Impala SS was the highest-performance big Chevy in history.
