1969 Shelby GT-500 Model Year History Overview: The first Shelby Mustang Built by Carroll Shelby came in 1965. The 1965 GT-350 was aimed primarily at the B-Production racing class of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). It was the B-Production champion in 1965-67. The 1969 Shelby GT-350 and GT-500 were more closely related to the production Mustang than their predecessors had been (the Mustang was all-new in 1969). There were now air scoops in the fiberglass front fenders, and side stripes were relocated midway up the body sides. Although a few 1969’s were re-serialed for1970, Shelby production effectively ended in ’69. A combination of government regulations and spiraling insurance rates prompted cancellation of the Shelby program. Top speed was 115 mph, 0-60 in 6.0 seconds, and ¼ mile in 14 seconds @ 102 mph. This car was originally ordered, owned and completely restored (in 1990) by a dear friend of this dealership, Mr. Frank Reynolds of Grand Prairie, Texas. A former Ford employee, Frank did all of the body, paint, interior and engine restoration work himself. In 2000 he modified the engine to accommodate the lower octane fuels of today by reducing the compression ratio from 11.6:1 to 10.1:1 GT-350 Fastback: 1,085 MSRP: $5,027.00 Originally Sold To: Richardson Ford, Albuquerque, New Mexico Stock Number C 170 |
