1962 Thunderbird Sports Roadster Convertible

Model Year History Overview:
1962 was the first year for the Thunderbird Sports Roadster. These vehicles were distinguished by having Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, tonneau cover, a special front fender emblem and a grab bar on the passenger side.  All were painted Rangoon Red with Black canvas tops in 1962.  The coding for the Sports Roadster was established as 76A/85 and 76A/89.  The last 76A/85-invoiced Sport Roadster was 2Y85Z114640.  In 1962 only 1,427 were produced: 1,299 were 390 CID4-barrel equipped and only 120 were 390 CID Triple 2-barrel carburetors equipped with (401 HP).
This car was sold new in Ohio and remained there until 2001.  The selling dealer, Chagrin Valley S&S Co., Chagrin Falls, OH bought the car back in 1968 and kept it until 1988 and sold it again in 1991.  The new owner kept it until 2001.  In this time, the car had new wire wheels, tonneau cover, trunk interior, brake booster and paint.  The front and rear bumpers were re-chromed and the stainless polished.  In 1999 the engine was removed and rebuilt, and it has less than 500 miles on it since.  In 2001 the car was further upgraded with a new canvas top with pads and rubber arm pads. New front seat covers and foam, step plates, trunk interior, chrome engine dress-up kit with decals.  Exhaust manifold were removed, resurfaced and reinstalled with new gaskets. This vehicle has the original cornering weights, front and rear, which are rare.  The mileage is believed to be original.
