1953 Ford Crestline Model Year History Overview: 1953 was Ford’s Golden Anniversary year celebrating 50 years in the car business. The new body shell introduced the previous year continued untouched as it would over the next several years. The newly-designed cars were lower and wider. The Crestline became a top-of-line V-8 series. Ford Division built 1.2 million cars in ’53 – an output shattered in 1955 with nearly 1.5 million cars. Ford was closing in on Chevy with its “Ford Blitz” sales campaign. The Ford Blitz hit the independents: Studebaker, American Motors, and Kaiser-Willy’s dealers hard and is considered one of the most important factors in their decline in the mid-‘50s. Chevrolet was not seriously damaged by the onslaught. Total 1953 Ford Car Production: 1,247,542 |
