1949 Ford Custom 2-Door Convertible

Model Year History Overview:
Ford’s 1949 models were the first real body change since the end of the WWII.  Work on the postwar design began in early 1946, and the ‘49s were introduced earlier than usual, in June 1948.  Styling was a competitive operation, as Ford solicited ideas from freelance designers as well as from its own design department.  Independent designer, George Walker’s team developed the final accepted model.  The package incorporated integral fenders, horizontal taillights, and a bullet or spinner-type grille reminiscent of the later ’50 Studebaker.  The 1949’s used the newly re-designed 239 cid flathead 100 hp V-8, which ran circles around rival Chevys and Plymouths.  The new car brought Ford a calendar year production level the likes of which the company hadn’t seen since 1937.
A professional frame-off restoration was done in 2002. Interior is leather and is like new with a full convertible top boot.  Engine compartment is detailed.  Late model Ford OHV V-8 powered and fresh; it runs and drives strong, chrome valve covers and air cleaner, and very well detailed.
