1953 Jaguar XK 120 Drophead Coupe

Model Year History Overview:
Few cars remain as instantly recognizable as the Jaguar XK 120.  It’s graceful and all enveloping shape influenced the changing design of post-war sports cars.  Introduced in 1948, it revolutionized the world’s sports market by providing a genuine 120 mph, hence the name.  The final variant of the XK 120 was the drophead coupe that provided a more civilized version of a sports car with a fully folding top and a properly trimmed hood, wind-up windows and more luxurious fittings.  This model is the rarest of all the XK 120s.  The production run, replaced by the XK140 in 1954, was short-lived and only 1,767 were built.  Most were sold in the United States

This is the Ex-RKO Radio Pictures/Lauren Bacall car used by producers, directors and starlets in the glory days of film production in Hollywood. Painstakingly restored, fully proper, correct and number matching.  It comes with the original title, records, books and tool kit.  According to Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust trace certificate it was dispatched from the UK on July 21, 1959.  An original California pink slip that accompanies this Jaguar shows the vehicle was registered to Albert B. Taylor, RKO Pictures, Hollywood, Calif.  Taylor was the Treasurer of RKO when Howard Hughes owned the studio.  This XK 120 underwent a substantial restoration in the mid 1980s.
