"If you've got it...flaunt it" was the phrase of the day as were "buzz words" like Hostile Takeover, Leveraged Buyouts and Mega-Mergers. Forbes list of the top 400 richest people became more important than the top 500 companies and, at auction, Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" fetched a whopping $39.9m while Picasso's "Yo" brought a mere $5.4m. Tom Clancy, Ken Follett and Robert Ludlum became household names when it came to thriller novels. Carl Sagan, Miss Piggy & Thomas Wolfe continued to publish at the same time the State of New York banned "Catcher in the Rye". Smurfs, Madona, Flashdance (the movie), Milli Vanilli & M.C. Hammer were all popular products of the 80's as were the people and icons shown below.
